All participants at Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship International (PATH Intl.) centers are unique and deserve recognition. But every once in a while an equestrian comes along who is simply outstanding. They may be a star at horse show competitions, or they may still be relying on two sidewalkers and a horse leader to get around the area at a walk. But whenever this person appears, the hearts and spirits of everyone are transformed. Who will you nominate for PATH Intl.'s 2011 Adult Equestrian of the Year Award?

Help us identify the equine participating in a Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship International (PATH Intl.) Center program who best defines the heart and soul of equine assisted activities and therapies. The fields of Equine-Facilitated Psychotherapy and Equine-Facilitated Learning are expanding rapidly. Thousands of clients and students are served daily nationwide. With the help of an EFP or EFL program, many lives are changed and many hearts are healed. It is the dedication, drive and direction of EFP/L professionals that enable this field to excel. These professionals not only provide services to clients and students, they also establish best practices within the fields of EFP and EFL. We wish to acknowledge these individuals who dedicate their lives to the betterment of humanity, to the ethical care of their equine partners, and to the advancement of EFP and EFL.
Our service personnel have fought to preserve our freedom, and, for many, at a very dear cost. This year Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship International (PATH Intl.) will award an individual membership to the PATH Intl. 2011 Horses for Heroes of the Year. Your nominees don’t need to be a PATH Intl. member or join. It is our honor to recognize this individual by welcoming him or her into the community that appreciates the power of the horse to change lives. And of course, we hope he or she will be able to join us at the 2011 PATH Intl. National Conference and Annual Meeting Awards banquet on Friday, November 11th in Lexington, KY.
Instructors invest time and energy in training and continuously developing their skills as professionals in the equine-assisted activities and therapies industry. They spend hours in the sun and cold weather, in dusty barns and arenas coaxing participants, horses, leaders and sidewalkers to appreciate with them the power of the horse. It doesn’t happen without these 3,000+ individuals who have dedicated their energy, their careers and their passion to proving that each of us have exceptional abilities.
The growth of the equine-assisted activities and therapies industry continues to grow at dramatic rates. It is the untiring commitment of professionals in the industry that has spurred this growth and the credibility and visibility that our pursuits with equines and the participants with disabilities and amazing abilities continue to earn. The James Brady Professional Achievement Award recognizes the contributions made by these professionals (occupational therapists, physical therapists, educators, psychologists, riding instructors, executive, program coordinators and others) to the field.
Driving has expanded the world of equine assisted activities and offered the power of the horse to change lives to some participants who were unable to experience this world. Please help Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship International (PATH Intl.) identify an individual who has exemplified outstanding dedication to the development and promotion of driving for individuals with disabilities. This person may be a PATH Intl. instructor who has demonstrated exceptional skills in teaching; a participant who utilizes skills learned in a PATH Intl. driving program to excel in competition; or a program developer who has worked to develop and promoted driving activities for individuals with disabilities.
It wouldn’t happen without their help. They dedicate more than 30,000 hours at Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship International (PATH Intl.) centers every year working as sidewalkers and leaders, providing office support, caring for horses, helping with barn operations, building fences, mowing grass, scooping poop and offering hugs to participants, riders and center staff. PATH Intl. center volunteers rock the EAAT world.
