Asbury University’s Equine Program offers students unique opportunities to pursue a career in the field of Equine-Assisted Services by allowing students to tailor our flexible academic program according to their career aspirations, whether they are in therapeutic riding, mental health services that incorporate equines, or traditional and/or adventure education (also considered Equine-Assisted Learning).

Most students choose to major in Equine Studies with a concentration in Equine-Assisted Activities, which also meets CTRI application requirements and allows students to be fully PATH Intl. certified upon graduation.

Students who want to pursue a career in the mental health field often double major in Equine Studies and Psychology or Social Work, with an emphasis in Equine-Assisted Mental Health. This education track prepares students to continue their education with graduate programs and provides them with foundational education in EAS, focusing on aspects related to incorporating equines in mental health practices, and experiential learning opportunities. Most graduate programs in the country do not offer additional education in Equine-Assisted Therapies, so receiving education in this field prior to entering graduate school is highly beneficial to those who want to pursue a career as a mental health professional with a specialization in Equine-Assisted Mental Health.

Students who pursue a career in education also have the opportunity to specialize in Equine-Assisted Learning by adding a concentration in Equine-Assisted Activities.
