Judson College, an independent, church-related college of arts and sciences for women in Alabama, seeks a Department Head for the Department of Equine Studies/Science.

The Department Head will have instructional and administrative responsibilities, and will assume a leadership role at an extraordinary time for the Equine program. Already Judson College’s third-largest major in terms of student enrollment and the recent beneficiary of a major gift which ensures the completion of the construction of the Equine Center, the Equine program is a pivotal part of the college’s future.

The Department Head will see to the quality and efficiency of the instruction given in the equestrian department and program, manage the equestrian facility and ensure that the facility is both functional and aesthetically attractive on a day-to-day basis, and will promote the college and program in order to attract and retain students. The Department Head will build relationships with the faculty in more traditional programs, including faculty in Biology and Psychology. The Department Head will also ensure that the department continues to work closely with the Student Life Division, which houses Judson’s competitive Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) team. Judson offers students the opportunity to participate in Western and Hunter Seat team activities and classes. The barn is recently constructed and the arena recently covered, and lighting and fencing projects are ongoing.

The successful candidate will possess a master’s and/or doctoral degree in an appropriate field and experience working in higher education. Certifications in PATH instruction with program development and accreditation experience are strongly preferred, but candidates with other emphases are encouraged to apply.
